Most days in the early San Juans were filled with hard work, but during their leisure hours, men, women, and children made time for recreation. With the mountains in their back yards, possibilities were endless. Lodge meetings, church activities, Saturday night dances, and baseball brought people together. In the winter, they braced the cold for sledding and ice skating. And, the Fourth of July the most anticipated day of the year.
